Pony
Clubbers progress through a series of proficiency levels as their
knowledge and skills increase. These are USPC Standards. The beginning
or lower level ratings are D1 through C2. The C3 is a regional rating
and the B, H-A and A are national ratings, administered by the National
Testing Committee. A brief overview of the different ratings are:
"D"
RATINGS:
The "D" Ratings are introductions to the fun and challenge of
riding. The D1 through D3 Pony Clubber learns to ride independently,
exhibiting control and maintaining a secure seat at the walk, trot,
canter, and in jumping over low fences. In addition to developing basic
riding skills, the "D" Pony Clubber establishes safety habits
and a knowledge of the daily care of a pony or horse and riding tack.

D Rating Checklist ~
"C"
RATINGS:
At the "C" Rating, the Pony Clubber demonstrates the skills of
an active horseperson and is able to demonstrate sound judgment and
responsibility in the care of ponies or horses. The "C"
Clubber shows solid development towards a secure seat, demonstrates
control and confidence in all phrases of riding, and a firm knowledge of
daily horse care and management.
"B"
RATINGS:
At the "B" rating the Pony Clubber demonstrates the skills of
an active horseperson who is interested in acquiring further knowledge,
confidence, and proficiency in all phases of riding and horse care.
"A"
RATINGS:
The "A" rating is the highest rating given and is divided into
two parts: the "H-A" which covers knowledge and experience
with horse management, teaching, and training, and the "A"
which tests superior riding skills.

Below are the
Parent-in-Charge Duties for those Saturdays
when you are assigned to help coordinate CHPC Meetings and Riding
Schedules.
If you are unable to
fulfill your assigned Parent-in-Charge assignment(s),
please trade with another parent and inform Denise or Eugenie.
DUTIES:
- Bake "CHPC 'Thank You'
Cookies" for guest instructor and bring cookies to meeting.
- Arrive by 9:00am.
- Bring snacks, e.g., 3-dozen bagels,
cream cheese (plain seems to be most popular) and juice or hot
chocolate mix and water, plus napkins and knives. (Don't need to
bring cups, we have a lot at the barn).
- Remind the kids when they will be
riding.
- Enforce timely beginning and ending
of mounted sessions and dismounted lessons.
The schedule for
dismounted lesson(s) varies.
- Barn
Chores - Ensure kids do barn chores when they're not
riding, in dismounted lesson or caring for their horse. Barn chores
include (but are not limited to):
- Pick up and put away brushes and
school tack left on the floor
- Sweep the main aisles (including
behind the tack trunks!)
- Sweep one of the side aisles
- Sweep the wash area
- Sweep the boarder's tack room
- Sweep out the grain room
(important for controlling pests)
- Give "Thank You Cookies"
to guest instructor.
- File attendance sheet back in the
"Attendance" folder on PC Board.
There should always be a
DC present
to answer questions and provide support.
